How can small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) master the financing challenge when doing business abroad? Professor Andreas Klasen discussed “Trade finance for SMEs: strategy, instruments and innovations” with international guests at the Public Forum of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva on 29 September. Results of a current research project of the University of Applied Sciences Offenburg were also presented.

Together with researchers from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the University of Westminster, colleagues from the B+W faculty are investigating why companies demand export credits, export insurance and investment guarantees. Key drivers and the supply gap in trade finance for SMEs in Africa and the Middle East were now the dominant topic in Geneva. Andreas Klasen spoke about this at a panel discussion with, among others, the President of the Berne Union Topi Vesteri and ITFC CEO Hani Sunbol from the Islamic Development Bank.
