The event is themed "Managing the Green Transition in Times of Crisis". The Institute for Trade and Innovation (IfTI) is bringing more than 50 high-ranking experts from politics, business and science to the Ortenau. Among the participants are Dr. Franziska Brantner, Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, and Kate Forbes, Scottish Minister for Economics and Finance. In addition, there will be numerous participants from international development banks as well as companies such as Siemens and Deutsche Bank. They will present approaches to linking innovation, trade and environmental policy. The main topics will be the new global order, green transfer strategies, linking public and private climate finance, promoting green innovation, and the challenges and opportunities of the green transition for economies. "Especially in times of crisis, it is essential to understand the importance of the collaboration between innovation, trade, investment and environmental policy and to take new paths", says Prof. Dr. Andreas Klasen, scientific director of the IfTI and Visiting Scholar at the University of Oxford.

The symposium will kick off with the Germany-Scotland Forum on May 24. The 26th World Climate Conference in Glasgow has put Scotland in the spotlight as an important location for climate projects and companies with a focus on net-zero emissions. The German-Scottish forum aims to identify common approaches to economic and environmental policy in Germany and the UK. Panel discussions will focus on hydrogen and renewable energy, as well as data and digitalization in sustainability. And of course, how could it be otherwise with Scotland, it is also about the production of the national drink whisky.

The IfTI

At the Institute for Trade and Innovation (IfTI) at Offenburg University of Applied Sciences, scientists from Germany and abroad conduct research in areas including innovation promotion, trade policy and export financing. Knowledge transfer plays a crucial role here. Among other things, the Gengenbach researchers have developed innovative solutions for European governments and development banks in Africa.
