Andreas Klasen moderates panel discussion at OPEC Fund

The OPEC Fund for International Development was hosting its second Forum in Vienna about the future of development finance.

Addressing global development challenges under the over-arching theme "Driving Resilience & Equity", forum discussions focused on opportunities to better finance sustainable development and secure transformational impact. Other topical issues on the agenda included sustainable food systems, innovative climate solutions and partnerships and policies that prioritize people and planet.

In addition, the Forum offered Spotlight sessions on selected topics. They aim to provide a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities in critical areas, the need for innovative solutions and the resulting joint actions.

Andreas Klasen, Director of the Institute for Trade and Innovation, moderated the panel discussion "Regional Collaboration as a Catalyst for Scalable Solutions". Panelists were Dima Al-Khatib, Director of the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC), The World Bank Vice President Ferid Belhaj, Asian Development Bank (ADB) Director General Suzanne Gaboury, the Executive President of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) Dante Mossi and Perames Vudthitornetiraks, Vice President of the Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (NEDA).

They discussed how to better co-ordinate regional engagement among governments, multilateral institutions and private sector actors and examined the complex issues facing developing economies and assessed cross-cutting perspectives, as well as regional case studies. At the end they identified initiatives to scale up successful development solutions, pooling competitive advantages.

The OPEC Fund Development Forum brings together government leaders, ministers, heads of institutions, representatives from multilateral development banks, international organizations and private sector stakeholders. With a focus on transformative development models, regional collaboration and inclusiveness, the forum seeks to forge new pathways towards sustainable development.
