Panel discussion on innovation and export promotion

|

How can governments promote innovation? What do exporters have to do to compete successfully in an increasingly tough international market? What role do government support instruments play here? These and other questions were discussed by Professor Andreas Klasen from the Institute for Trade and Innovation (IfTI) at Offenburg University of Applied Sciences at a panel discussion with high-level participants at the ExCred conference in London in February.

The public sector is increasingly offering financing and promotion measures for innovation and internationalisation. Innovation and exports are of key importance for successful economies: they are key drivers of growth and employment. Multilateral development banks in emerging and developing countries are also using a variety of support instruments to strengthen the innovative capacity of companies and diversify their economies. Innovation and export promotion are therefore central research topics at the IfTI.

The Institute for Trade and Innovation was founded in autumn 2017. Research activities focus on trade policy and finance, innovation policy and business development. Currently, seven professors and four Fellows are members of the Institute, who collaborate on an interdisciplinary basis. In addition, four PhD students are assigned to the IfTI, who conduct research in the fields of international economics and innovation promotion.
