How can governments generate sustainable growth by promoting trade and investment, and how can exporters benefit from the positive economic development in African countries? Professor Andreas Klasen from the Institute for Trade and Innovation (IfTI) at Offenburg University of Applied Sciences spoke about these questions at the Annual Meeting of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in July.

Under the motto “Celebrating the Past. Shaping the Future”, more than 1,000 representatives of international organisations, governments, and companies from 60 countries discussed trade policy, export promotion and finance in Abuja, Nigeria.

Offenburg University of Applied Sciences was able to contribute various results of applied research: IfTI head Andreas Klasen discussed with representatives of governments and multilateral development banks, among other things, how to create synergies between development cooperation and foreign trade promotion. In particular, the growing importance of innovative support instruments and supra-regional institutions such as the multilateral Afrexim Bank, which has been financing trade in and with Africa for 25 years, was discussed.
