In addition to the major impact on the health of people in more than 150 countries, negative demand shocks are affecting companies in almost every industry: Major Automobile manufacturer have closed factories, airlines have cancelled most flights, and small and medium-sized export companies are struggling with massive sales losses. The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) estimates that the economic consequences of COVID-19 could cost the global economy up to two trillion dollars this year.

Support measures for exporters are the focus of the new project "European Support Measures for Exporters in Times of Corona Crisis". Among other things, existing and new instruments as well as strategies of state support banks and export credit insurers will be examined. The IfTI researchers are supported in the project by master's students from the Business Administration degree, who will be writing initial analyses on individual countries under the supervision of Professors Thomas Baumgärtler and Andreas Klasen as part of the "Global Business" module until July.
